The movie begins by showing how magic used to be everywhere. People could do so many good things; however, they could also destroy so many things. A boy named Ian Lightfoot never met his father but tries to act like him as much as possible from what he has heard from his mother and older brother, Barley. Soon after, when Ian turns 16, he finds out his Dad saved a special birthday present for Ian and Barley that could bring him back to life. Unfortunately, they try to use the magic, and they only bring him back halfway.
Ian and Barley begin a quest to bring their Dad back to life. If they find another magical stone, they might be able to see their Dad again for a day. This movie is fun-filled and adventurous as movie watchers see the risks Ian and Barley are willing to take to bring their Dad back into existence. The struggle is real, as it is very difficult to bring their half-Dad along the journey and not draw attention to themselves. In the end, this emotional story makes a person think about how important their family should be and what sacrifices they will take for them.
The movie Onward gets mixed reviews. Some people believe that Pixar has such high standards in movies for families that Onward is a letdown. These people think that some of the actions Ian and Barley Lightfoot do on their journey are not good decisions and therefore could have a negative influence on younger kids. Others suggest that the movie is a great story about family relationships and supporting one another. This movie reinforces the idea that each member of the family should do whatever they can to support one another. Regardless of one's take on Onward, it appears to be a family-friendly movie that is entertaining to see in theaters.
